Oh yes, the discomfort of being with or in something we don’t like creates an aggravation that simmers deep and manifests outwardly from the miniscule eye twitch to something akin to a volcanic eruption.
Are you feeling fragmented, challenged, besieged, tired? Are you waving the white flag?
Yes I know, it’s February already. And only February.
None of us like discomfort, and overwhelm is a thing.
Let me let you in on a little secret. They are a given in our life. We can fight them, but all we do is create more of the same, and get the extra bonus of suffering along for the ride. The only thing to do is find ways to be with them and strategies that allow us to do just that.
Any change, any transition creates turbulence. Sometimes our only control is limited to our response.
In Midlife, there are considerations at a biochemical level. But it doesn’t mean all is lost. However I know when you feel like a hot mess it’s hard to know where to begin.
I have been lucky enough to be part of some beautiful wedding celebrations of late. What enhances each from being just a party is the celebration of hope & joy and so much love. The promise of something more than just a fleeting connection. This connection matters.
The ripple effect is very real and palpable, particularly during a ceremony. Being surrounded by others as the promises are made envelops everyone in an invisible cloak, and we all marinate in the good juju. The resonance is still there days later.
What has been informing my planning for my programs & for Yoga this week is asking the question - what elevates our practice and our life?
Well, what amplifies anything is Meaning.
The difference between Yoga and any other form of exercise is the inbuilt idea that what we do embodies a theory that moves beyond the physical aspect.
Yoga, and teachers like me, couldn’t care less what you look like, it is how you are managing life that is of utmost importance.
It’s all about the
cultivation of a regulated nervous system;
and optimising mental and emotional wellbeing.
We do this through a regular practice & every time we step onto our mat. We then take this framework and apply it to our lives off the mat.
Yes we build a strong body, as that is the vehicle that takes us through the world, but that is worth nothing if we don’t have an inner strength to ride the emotional waves, or nurture a robust mental state.
Everything to me is a practice. Life is ever changing, and we are always in some type of fluctuation. So yes, some days I am more of a hot mess than others. We build the skills to support us by getting up everyday and showing up for ourselves in some capacity, whether we feel like it or not. We acknowledge where we are and how we are, and be prescriptive about our strategies.
There are no quick fixes.
Social media is full of promises that you can transform in a day…in 3 days…a Brand! New! You! That’s bullshit. At best, you might plant a tiny seed, but it has to be backed up. Again. And again. And again.
I am smack in midlife, have had children, been through separation & divorce, death, relocations… & I survived. I have no magic potions or quick fixes. I believe in getting back to basics, empowering through teaching skills and the significance of connection and consistency.
Come with me.
Granted, I am not for everyone and this is not a hard sell. If you are reading this THANK YOU. I will always be here giving something to uplift, to inform or to inspire. If you want to do more, I have regular bite sized pieces of really good stuff to help you … help you, both online and in real life on their way. Cherry pick your way through them. The only promises will make is that I will help you to make life.
Tolerable;
Manageable;
Meaningful;
and most of all…Absolutely Delightful…not all the time, because that’s not life, but we seek and find the glimpses and the moments of joy and we allow them to transform us from a big hot mess to more of a spicy margarita…still a bit edgy and kind of cool.
And remember, it is always an invitation to participate, never an insistence -
…but
I hope that you do.Let’s do this thing called life together.
As always, I am so grateful to you for being here.
Have a good week, until next time
Mon x
PS I posted this on Insta this week….am sending out information later today, so if you want to know more, please message. I felt like a little escape, and instead of going alone, I thought I would throw it out there. It is a very relaxed few days gathering ourselves. keeping the cost as minimal as possible.
