“New Year, New You!”
Every rollover to another year is bound by so much hype, expectation & hope, it can be just a tad overwhelming.
Can we give it a rest? Please?
I have been around the sun 56 times, and I have been in the Wellbeing business long before the influencers got a hold of the term. Frankly, this time of year - the beginning - I am usually tired, no, exhausted, still gathering myself from the end of last year.
This year is no different.
I know little about the land, but I do understand that leaving land fallow, without a crop, allows the soil to recover its potential and helps to reduce populations of pests.
This time of year - yes the beginning - is my fallow time. I take my foot off the pedal to restore, rejuvenate, to gather my energy, so my ‘production potential’ and immunity has time to recalibrate. While I am still working, preparing for the year ahead, I have moved myself to another paddock to nurture & plant the seeds for future growth. I cannot give others, to my work, if I don’t give to myself too.
"The fallow gives it a better tilth than can be given by a fallow crop"
A.K.A You cannot pour from an empty cup.
The last few years I have taken a road trip to Point Lonsdale in Victoria to stay with great friends. When I am here I am flat out relaxing most of the time. I am out of my normal routine. Yesterday I read a book for most of the day. And drank tea. Lots of tea. I work for a few hours a day - this is my work space. I also have a 6 month old Border Collie pup to train, so it’s not all feet up on a banana lounge!
Changing our environment, mixing it up & consciously using the time to restructure helps to foster creativity, deregulates our frazzled nervous systems, gives us perspective, reinforces our importance to our self, to move into our days, months, year ahead a little more robust. We don’t even have to leave home. Take a day trip. Try a new park, new beach, new open space to cultivate your inner garden.
And yes, while I do have some new programs, new classes to offer you, I am sliding on into this brand new year gradually, and I hope you can take some time to ignore the hype, take a breath & just do you.
I will be back next week to talk about beginnings & the ways we can connect to help us live with more ease in this demanding world. Like me, I know you feel the need to find ways to do things differently too.
I love this girl Caitlin who I follow on instagram - I always get a giggle out of her feed. Her message really resonated today!
I am looking forward to the year ahead with you all … I, like Caitlin, just need a little time to tip-toe in.
I hope you can take some time for gradual entry into this new year too.
As always, thank you for being here
Love
